Landing International Development Ltd has reportedly begun construction work on its proposed $1.5 billion integrated casino resort in Manila, according to Philippine Star.

Earth-moving work has reportedly begun set as it is against President Rodrigo Duterte’s promised that no new Philippines casinos would be approved.

The land parcel is located in Manila’s Entertainment City precinct between Solaire Resort & Casino and Okada Manila and news of ongoing construction comes less than two weeks after the entire board of Landing’s Philippines partner, Nayon Pilipino Foundation, was fired by Duterte who described the land lease deal – said to be costing the government around Php517 million per year over 50 years – as “grossly disadvantageous”.

Duterte subsequently ordered the Department of Justice to review the deal and stated last week he would not allow any new casinos to be built in the Philippines.

The multi-use IR and theme park tentatively known as Nayong Pilipino Theme Park is a mixed-use water park and movie-based centre located on 9.5 hectares of land located in the same entertainment precinct as Bloomberry’s Solaire Resort & Casino, Melco Resorts’ City of Dream Manila and Universal Entertainment’s Okada Manila integrated resorts.
