Granite Construction joint venture awarded $165mn Naval construction project
A joint venture has been awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to undertake construction on a major naval defence infrastructure development.
Granite Construction, together with Obayashi Corporation, has been awarded a $165mn contract by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific for a Phase 1 construction project.
The Marine Corps Base Guam, located on the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, will require infrastructure development for pre-construction as the facility will look to house a third of the 5,000 U.S Marines who will be relocated from their current post in Okinawa to the new facility in Guam over the next few years.
As part of the contract, the Phase 1 project will prepare the 400-acre site for future construction of operational, administrative and bachelor housing structures.
The JV team will be tasked with demolition of existing structures, utility relocation, new utilities, roads and other infrastructure including fencing, sidewalks, signed and striping. The team will also be in charge of clearing the site of unexploded ordnance and munitions of explosive concern.
