American workforce housing builder Civeo has won a contract to build accommodation for thousands of workers who will be building the 670km Coastal GasLink pipeline in Canada.

Completing four separate projects amounting to approximately $76mn, Civeo will provide around 2,000 rooms during the 2019-2021 peak construction period of the pipeline, which runs from Dawson Creek to the west coast of British Columbia.

The award of this contract provides a confidence boost for potential investors in the project, which is heading towards a final investment decision later this year.

Bradley Dodson, Civeo's President and Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We are pleased to announce these contract awards, solidifying our position as the partner of choice for workforce accommodation solutions in Canada.

“The strength of our First Nation relationships was critical to these awards, and we look forward to collaborating with our partners to provide best-in-class accommodations along the Coastal GasLink pipeline project. Along with our recent acquisition of Noralta Lodge, this contract is a testament to our continued growing presence across Canada.”

Once complete, the pipeline will transport natural gas to LNG Canada’s facility near Kitimat on the western coast of BC. Much of the gas is expected to be exported to Asian markets.

Civeo already has experience in building worker accommodation for industries in Canada, notably for companies working on Canadian oil sands.
