Micron has selected Bechtel as its partner for its new semiconductor manufacturing complex in New York which is set to become the largest fab in the US

Micron Technology has selected Bechtel to partner on the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the first phase of Micron’s memory manufacturing complex in Clay, New York.

The site is planned to become the largest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the US. Micron is investing US$100bn in the project, marking the largest private investment in New York State’s history.

The global semiconductor plant construction market was estimated at US$47.2bn in 2025. The market is expected to grow from US$59.3bn in 2026 to US$85bn in 2035, at a CAGR of 4.1%, according to statistics from Global Market Insights.

Micron selected Rhode Island based Gilbane to lead the preconstruction of the site enabling works for 680 acres of its 1,400-acre site in Clay. Since breaking ground on its first New York fab in January 2026, Micron has made strong progress and is now transitioning to the next phase of construction with Bechtel.

Craig Albert, Bechtel’s President and Chief Operating Officer, says: “This project represents more than the construction of a semiconductor manufacturing campus, it is part of the foundation of America’s industrial future.

“Micron is making a generational investment in US manufacturing and Bechtel is bringing its world-class execution to deliver the foundation of long-term technology leadership and economic growth.”

Micron’s memory manufacturing complex is expected to generate 50,000 jobs in New York, including more than 4,500 construction jobs.

Bechtel says it will mobilise at the White Pine Commerce Park site in Onondaga County immediately and scale its presence quickly, deploying a delivery model combining engineering, procurement and advanced digital-enabled construction technologies to support the project.

As the project enters a new phase of construction, Manish Bhatia, Executive Vice President of Global Operations at Micron Technology, says: “Our New York project will be home to the most advanced memory manufacturing in the world and will serve as a cornerstone of America’s leadership in the AI era.

“We are entering an exciting new phase of construction. As the only US manufacturer of memory, we know a project of this scale and complexity is only possible through the strength of partnership and we are pleased to partner with Bechtel, unlocking the full strength of their global capabilities, technical expertise and world-class teams, to bring this facility to life.”

Semiconductor growth powering construction

The US semiconductor industry is rapidly expanding, driven by demand for AI infrastructure, data centres and consumer electronics. This has triggered a boom in the construction sector for the buildout of new fabrication facilities.

According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, companies in the US semiconductor ecosystem have announced more than 140 projects across 30 states contributing 122,000 construction jobs to the US economy.

The New York project in Clay is a part of Micron’s roughly US$200bn broader US expansion vision, which also includes two leading-edge high-volume fabs in Idaho as well as the expansion and modernisation of its existing manufacturing fab in Virginia.

Its project in Clay represents the largest private investment in New York state history, projected to add approximately US$16.7bn per year in real economic output in the state.
