TotalEnergies signs 15-year agreements to provide 1GW of solar capacity to power Google’s Texas data centres, creating hundreds of construction jobs

TotalEnergies has signed two long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to deliver 1GW of solar capacity to Google's data centres in Texas.

The agreements will supply 28TWh of renewable electricity over 15 years, marking a significant development in the renewable energy infrastructure sector that could have implications for construction firms specialising in large-scale solar installations.

The power comes from TotalEnergies-owned sites under development in Texas.

The Wichita site will provide 805MWp and Mustang Creek 195MWp, with construction due to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

These new PPAs complement separate gross agreements of 1.2GW recently secured by Clearway, a California-based renewables company 50% owned by TotalEnergies. They will support Google's data centres across ERCOT, PJM and SPP markets.

Construction opportunities in solar development

The Wichita and Mustang Creek solar farms will create several hundred construction jobs. According to TotalEnergies, the projects will also generate substantial tax revenues to support local public services throughout the lifetime of the installations.

The scale of these developments represents considerable opportunities for construction contractors, civil engineering firms and specialist solar installation companies operating in Texas.

The company already has a gross capacity portfolio of 10GW of onshore solar, wind and battery storage in operation in the US. This includes 400MW in PJM in the Northeast and 5GW in ERCOT, Texas.

These existing projects could provide a template for the construction methods and timelines likely to be employed at Wichita and Mustang Creek.

Marc-Antoine Pignon, Vice President Renewables US for TotalEnergies, said: "We are pleased to sign these agreements to supply renewable electricity to Google in Texas, representing the largest renewable PPA volume ever signed by TotalEnergies in the United States.

This highlights TotalEnergies' strategy to deliver tailored renewable energy solutions that support the decarbonisation goals of digital players, particularly data centres. Through this PPA, TotalEnergies is also addressing the challenges of land availability and power supply for data centres by enabling large-scale colocation opportunities."

Infrastructure demands for data centres

Will Conkling, Director of Clean Energy and Power at Google, said: "Supporting a strong, stable, affordable grid is a top priority as we expand our infrastructure. Our agreement with TotalEnergies adds necessary new generation to the local system, boosting the amount of affordable and reliable power supply available to serve the entire region."

Data centres increasingly prioritise reliable, low-carbon power. Large-scale solar and storage projects such as Wichita and Mustang Creek provide consistent energy while helping operators meet decarbonisation goals.

They also create tangible benefits for local communities in the form of jobs and tax contributions. By signing long-term PPAs, TotalEnergies ensures predictable power supply costs for data centres while addressing infrastructure constraints that could require substantial construction expertise to resolve.

The agreements with Google add to TotalEnergies' existing power supply contracts with Airbus, SWM, Data4, STMicroelectronics, Saint-Gobain, Air Liquide, Amazon, LyondellBasell, Merck, Microsoft, Orange and Sasol.

Building renewable energy solutions

The company develops integrated solutions combining renewable generation and flexible energy assets. These include solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, combined cycle gas turbines and storage, allowing it to deliver clean firm power to corporate customers including data centre operators.

As of October 2025, TotalEnergies had more than 32GW of installed gross renewable electricity capacity. The company aims to produce more than 100TWh of net electricity by 2030.

The scale of TotalEnergies' ambitions indicates sustained demand for construction expertise in the renewable energy sector.

These long-term agreements provide stability for energy suppliers and consumers while creating employment opportunities in construction and ongoing operations.
