Peter Davoren, Chairman and CEO of Turner Construction, outlines why the construction giants are seeing record breaking demand for new projects

Turner Construction is seeing a 48% increase in new orders year-on-year, as requests worth US$12.1bn of work have been received by the company.

The New York City-based contractor says the growth has been driven by increased demand for data centres, as well as the healthcare and commercial markets.

Work-in-place revenue increased by 25% compared with the same period last year to US$7.7bn, while backlog grew 34% to US$48.9bn.

Turner’s portfolio of mega-projects is also growing, with 10 projects each with a value of US$1bn or above being awarded this year so far. Among them is the US$10bn joint venture construction manager project with STV on NYC’s Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement.

“Our first quarter results demonstrate both the impact of our work and the strength of our culture,” says Peter Davoren, Chairman and CEO of Turner Construction.

“We are delivering increasingly complex projects, bringing an expanded range of services and capabilities to each assignment, and we do so by fostering an environment where every individual is treated with respect and dignity.”

Data centre demand driving growth for Tier-1 suppliers

The demand for data centres to support the growth of AI has led to an unprecedented wave of huge construction projects.

Average spending on data centre construction in the US is projected to exceed US$70bn per quarter from 2025 to 2028, according to S&P Global. The sector is expected to roughly double in size by 2030, with around 100 GW of new capacity anticipated in that period, according to JLL Research.

Data centres demand precision engineering, complex cooling infrastructure and the ability to deliver at speed without sacrificing quality. Turner's position within the ACS and Hochtief global group gives it access to integrated services across engineering, supply chain management and modular solutions.

This makes it well-positioned when large-scale and complex projects come to tender.

It is exactly this level of capability that helped Turner land the US$10bn Meta Data Center Campus in Lebanon, Indiana. Turner is one of two contractors, alongside Mortenson, awarded the four million square foot project, which will deliver 1 GW of capacity to support Meta's core operations and AI workloads once complete.

"The scale of the Lebanon Data Center reflects the growing demand for high-performance infrastructure," says Ben Kaplan, Managing Director at Turner Construction.

"We look forward to working alongside Meta and applying our integrated services and deep mission-critical experience to deliver this data centre safely, sustainably and efficiently while supporting the long-term growth of the Lebanon community.”

Healthcare, commercial and beyond

Turner also attributes its strong year-on-year performance to demand in healthcare and other markets.

The contractor reported US$29.2bn in revenue for 2025, a 40% increase on 2024 figures. Within those annual results, healthcare, pharmaceutical, sports, aviation and commercial work all contributed to the record revenue figures.

Current healthcare projects include a US$500m hospital in Broward County, Florida for Baptist Health, as well as a US$900m hospital expansion in Pennsylvania for Geisinger.

On the commercial side, Turner is overseeing all construction on the US$10bn One Beverly Hills Project, an ultra-luxury mixed-use development featuring upscale residential properties, hotel and retail space.

Turner's sports portfolio is also expanding. In a joint venture with AECOM, it broke ground in April on the new Huntington Bank Field, a 75,000-seat domed stadium in Brook Park, Ohio, for the Cleveland Browns.

The US$2.4bn venue is the largest economic development project in Northeast Ohio's history, according to the team, and is scheduled to open in time for the 2029 NFL season.
