VolkerWessels Powers UK Water Infrastructure Growth

Major projects frameworks provide water companies with a trusted pool of delivery partners for years of investment.
VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin, two business units of VolkerWessels UK, hold a place on Anglian Water's Major Projects Framework, a programme designed to accelerate delivery of essential water and environmental infrastructure across the East of England, supporting up to £1.5bn (US$2bn) of planned investment.
A framework built for scale
The Major Projects Framework sits within Anglian Water's wider £11bn (US$14.9bn) AMP8 investment programme, the regulatory cycle through which UK water companies fund infrastructure upgrades.
It is designed to accelerate investment in major schemes that improve water quality, strengthen environmental resilience and support sustainable growth across the East of England.
VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin were appointed to one of two contracts within the framework, positioning the two businesses to support delivery of complex water infrastructure projects across the region for years to come.
"We are delighted to have been selected by Anglian Water for this important framework. This appointment reflects the strength of our collective expertise and the value created through collaboration across the VolkerWessels UK businesses,” says James Hindes, VolkerWessels UK board director. “By bringing together the complementary capabilities of VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin, we are well positioned to support Anglian Water in delivering resilient, sustainable infrastructure that will benefit customers, communities and the environment. We look forward to building a strong, long-term partnership with Anglian Water."
Initial schemes expected under the framework include a coastal water improvement programme valued at more than £400m (US$540m), aimed at reducing storm overflows and improving water quality at coastal locations throughout the East of England.
Combining complementary engineering capabilities
The appointment brings together two VolkerWessels UK business units with skill sets designed to complement rather than duplicate one another. Working jointly, VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin can offer water sector clients an integrated capability spanning:
- civil engineering design and delivery
- infrastructure programme management
- mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (MEICA) expertise
- coastal and environmental resilience schemes
- collaborative, framework-based project delivery
This integrated model reflects a broader pattern across major UK infrastructure sectors, where clients increasingly favour framework agreements over one-off tendered contracts.
Long-term partnership building
The track record of collaboration is not limited to the water sector.
VolkerFitzpatrick has separately been appointed to national contractor frameworks covering public sector construction and infrastructure work
On an earlier appointment to the Procure Partnerships national framework, James said:
"We are delighted to have earned a spot on the Procure Partnerships Framework. Our regional approach combined with our in-house construction expertise will allow us to deliver value in a way that benefits the communities in which we work."
- VolkerWessels UK employs over 3,500 people nationwide
- The group's turnover exceeds £1.3bn (US$1.76bn)
- VolkerWessels UK operates through five main business units
- VolkerFitzpatrick traces its history back more than 100 years
- VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin have a track record of joint delivery on major UK infrastructure projects
For water sector clients such as Anglian Water, that framework experience translates into a delivery partner already accustomed to working within pre-agreed commercial terms, social value commitments and performance-based collaboration models.
The Anglian Water Major Projects Framework represents one of the larger infrastructure investment programmes in the East of England, and reinforces a shared commitment among its appointed partners to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that protect the environment, improve customer outcomes and support future regional growth.
