Why is AECOM Displaying Renewed Commitment to Hong Kong?

Hong Kong is experiencing a technological transition that is most evident in recent developments such as the Northern Metropolis and SKYTOPIA.

Amid this evolutionary period, AECOM is literally positioning itself to meet the needs of its employees, clients and communities with a new Hong Kong office.

Located at 83 King Lam Street in Cheung Sha Wan, the building will be the company’s Asia’s headquarters, further intertwining Hong Kong’s future with that of the company.

Northern Metropolis and Terminal 2, Hong Kong

The construction of AECOM’s new office coincides with its involvement in two megaprojects in Hong Kong. 

Partnered with Canadian-based engineering and construction firm, AtkinsRéalis, it is working with the Highways Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to deliver a range of technical services for the Northern Metropolis Highway.

The goal of the project is to improve east-west connectivity in Hong Kong’s large-scale new Northern Metropolis development, help with economic growth and enhance the region’s research and development and technology sectors.

“As the industry’s leading transportation design firm, our innovative solutions and extensive knowledge of interfacing projects, combined with our experience in highways, viaducts and tunnels, position us to deliver this project efficiently and cost-effectively while meeting the needs of local stakeholders.” 

AECOM was also the lead design consultant for Hong Kong International Airport’s new Terminal 2 which opened in May 2026. The terminal is key to connecting travellers to the SKYTOPIA ecosystem, which is a new, luxury holiday leisure destination.

An expanse of 126,000 gross square feet across four floors, AECOM’s new Hong Kong headquarters consists of a number of spaces designed for focused work, delivering projects but also collaboration.

The focus on enriching environments where teams can perform to the best of their abilities is displayed through technology-enabled areas that assist with knowledge-exchange and co-creation. Equally, innovation spaces and client engagement areas can be found.

The overall environment is a reflection of what AECOM says defines its principles: a people-centredness and future-readiness that helps its clients deliver every day.

Embracing technology for enhanced sustainability 

 AECOM delivered structural, geotechnical and façade engineering services to the building’s construction.

It is taking an innovative approach to operating sustainably and measuring the sustainability of the building.

It uses a digital dashboard powered by IoT sensors that relays real-time information on indoor air quality and energy consumption.

AECOM also recognised circular economy principles, donating more than 900 pieces of furniture from its previous Sha Tin office to non-governmental organisations and schools.

Equally, sustainable carpets and bamboo finishes help to keep the environmental impact of the interior design to a minimum.

Meanwhile, planted dividers, green walls and natural materials introduce biophilic aspects of the workplace. That is, design elements that incorporate natural light and organic materials to enhance human well-being.
