Interserve Construction awarded £92mn contracts in June
International support services, construction and equipment group, Interserve, has secured contracts to a total value of over £92 million during June.
Many of these projects are supporting the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) including projects for new intensive care units, a number of decontamination facilities in addition to a major contract which will see the reconfiguration of operating theatres for when routine surgery begins to appear in hospitals following COVID-19.
During the next twelve months, Interserve Construction has is aware that more operating theatres will be required across the United Kingdom throughout the year. This is due to the increased backlog of appointments which were delayed and cancelled when hospitals were running at full capacity with coronavirus patients.
A significant investment by the NHS, which was promised by the UK Prime Minister earlier in the week as part of the governments’ COVID-19 recovery plans, will be required. The NHS Confederation has said that more than nine million patients are currently awaiting surgery which have had appointments delayed and cancelled thanks to the pandemic.
Moving on to other contracts, Interserve Construction has secured business from a number of local authority clients which are setting their eyes on better quality infrastructure including framework projects with utility companies and the development of new schools.
A recent contract was awarded to Interserve by East Riding of Yorkshire Council which will see the delivery of the Hessle Foreshore Tidal Defence Scheme. The project will see a new 700-metre long, permanent tidal defence adjacent to the Humber Estuary costing £11mn. The work is set to provide effective protection against flooding for properties vulnerable to flooding around the Hessle foreshore.
Paul Gandy, Interserve Construction’s Managing Director, said: “In these tough times, with COVID-19 continuing to dampen the UK economy, our June figures are very encouraging. It is a real testament to the relationships we have with our partners in healthcare, education and the wider public sector, underscored by our capability to deliver on these projects, that we continue to win new business.
“Our new business pipeline remains strong and lays solid foundations for Interserve Construction as we emerge from the COVID-19 lockdown.”
Headquartered in the UK, Interserve Group Limited is one of the world’s leading support services and construction companies. The company has a workforce of around 53,500 people worldwide and a consolidated revenue of £2.9bn.
