Turner & Townsend has been appointed to provide quantitative cost risk assessment services for a new 52.2km railway line in the Kuala Lumpur region of Malaysia.

The MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line, which is being developed by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), will be the second of three mass rapid transit (MRT) systems to be constructed in the capital and surrounding areas. It includes 37 stations, with 26 of them elevated and eleven underground. Construction work is expected to start in Spring 2016 and be fully operational by 2022.

Currently in the planning and design stage, Turner & Townsend will deliver quantitative cost risk assessment every six months for the initial three years, with an extension for the full duration of the project subject to a review.

Rodney Moulder, Head of Infrastructure for Turner & Townsend in Asia, said: “We are thrilled to have won this commission for such a vital public transport system that’ll bring Kuala Lumpur a step closer to reaching its aspiration of being one of the most liveable cities in the world.

“Our strong experience on complex infrastructure projects, including Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail, was a key factor on our selection. The services we are delivering under our commission will reinforce budget confidence throughout the eight-year construction period.”
