AIA and Turner: Key Drivers of Growth in Construction

While growth remains limited, AIA and Turner have found construction is displaying resilience, buoyed by several emerging new drivers.

Weaknesses in growth in construction stem from a trifecta of challenges. According to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) a combination of cyclical pressure, structural shifts and policy have contributed to a pullback in non-residential spending.

"Real construction activity, that is boots on the ground, has been flat at best in the non-residential building space,” AIA Chief Economist, Richard Branch, said at the bi-annual Construction Economy Outlook event, referring to the past two years.

Bouygues Wins Contract for New Jersey Hospital Project

The government of Jersey has chosen France-based infrastructure giant, Bouygues, as the preferred bidder for its new Overdale Acute Hospital.

It is part of a £710m (US$943m) project, which includes another two major sites at St Saviour Health Village and the Kensington Place ambulance facility. 

The hospital, which will cover a total area of 47,500 metres, is a crucial part of the island’s New Healthcare Facilities Programme.
