Understanding John Holland's Partnership with Ivalua

John Holland, a major construction and infrastructure provider, has selected Ivalua to transform its procurement operations.
As demand for efficient and resilient procurement increases across the construction sector, the company is implementing digital transformation to unlock new value, cost savings and supplier visibility in order to build resilience across its operations.
John Holland is one of Australia and New Zealand's leading construction and infrastructure companies, playing a central role in delivering major building, transport and infrastructure projects across the regions. It employs more than 6,000 employees and works with a network of more than 1,300 subcontractors and 9,000 suppliers.
As a result, it needed a procurement system that can manage demand and nurture supplier relationships. The company required a flexible and scalable system so it could manage project spend, improve supplier visibility and support mobile, on-site procurement workflows that are essential to construction operations.
To meet these demands, John Holland has chosen Ivalua's platform to unify and streamline its Source-to-Pay (S2P) processes. Ivalua is a provider of cloud-based Spend Management software which relies on AI agents to help boost operations.
Its unified Source-to-Pay platform helps businesses gain better management of their spend and suppliers, which could increase profitability, improve sustainability, lower risk and boost employee productivity.
Modernising construction procurement
Following an evaluation period, John Holland found Ivalua to be the best solution to modernise S2P operations, due to Ivalua's supplier management capabilities, flexibility and its capabilities of meeting tailored requirements for the construction sector.
"Selecting Ivalua was a strategic decision to support our evolving procurement and supplier management needs," explains Arnaud Bonhoste, IT Sourcing Manager at John Holland.
"The platform's support for complex project-based spend, clean mobile experience and robust supplier management capabilities stood out, and we are confident this transformation will enable us to unlock real value across the company."
In recent years, the role of procurement has shifted from a back-office, cost-saving function to a tool for building business resilience in construction. Now, procurement has its place in every business decision, with reliable suppliers being the tool to help businesses stay afloat during turbulent times.
As construction companies such as John Holland expand, they need to be confident in their transparency, value unlocking and collaboration capabilities.
Building operational resilience
Ivalua's S2P platform helps reduce cost, manage performance and risk, improves compliance and strengthens supplier relationships in a single platform. It digitises the process across spend and suppliers, creating a unified source of truth and visibility.
Through this, business leaders can empower their teams to generate greater business value, as well as unlock their own potential in contract negotiation, spend analysis and sourcing capabilities.
For John Holland, which manages a large network of construction suppliers and subcontractors, unity, collaboration and visibility are vital for resilience.
"We are delighted to partner with John Holland as they take a major step toward transforming their spend and supplier management operations," adds Andrew Stafford, VP APAC at Ivalua.
"This partnership reinforces Ivalua's growing leadership in the construction sector globally and momentum in Australia and New Zealand, demonstrating the trust placed by leading organisations that manage some of the region's largest and most complex infrastructure projects."
Implementing the solution
To work alongside the partnership, KPMG Australia has been selected by John Holland to design and implement the Ivalua S2P solution. It will utilise KPMG's Powered Procurement methodology to make it a straightforward integration.
"Ivalua is ideally suited to John Holland's complex operational requirements, thanks to its configuration flexibility and adaptability," explains Samantha Durban, Partner, KPMG Australia.
"We are looking forward to deploying our extensive experience in Ivalua deployment to help John Holland reap the benefits of an advanced supplier management platform."
Through this partnership, John Holland will be able to build operational resilience due to stronger collaboration across procurement, finance and project teams.
It will develop further compliance, due to more visible supplier data and performance, helping mitigate risk and strengthen network relationships across its construction supply chain.
