Royal Enfield to Build US$232m Plant in Andhra Pradesh

Royal Enfield will spend 22bn rupees (US$232.24m) on a new manufacturing plant in India, according to The Hindu. Eicher Motors owns the motorcycle manufacturer.
The facility will be built in Andhra Pradesh, a region that has attracted investment from companies including Google. The International Trade Association reports that India's advanced manufacturing sector is undergoing a transformation through government investment in automation, robotics and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Toyota plans to build three new factories in India, according to Nikkei. India has now surpassed Japan to become the third largest automobile market globally.
Investment in two phases
According to The Hindu, Royal Enfield will invest about 22bn rupees (US$232.24m) in two phases to set up a manufacturing facility at Satyavedu in Tirupati district, close to the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border. The state government has allocated 267 acres of land for the project across Vanelluru (233.76 acres) and Rallakuppam (42.38 acres) villages in Satyavedu Mandal.
The facility will be Royal Enfield's second manufacturing destination in India. The Hindu says the plant could generate around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Reuters reports that the plant will add around 900,000 units to its current annual capacity of around 1.46m units, as of the end of February 2026. This expansion could increase the company's production capabilities in line with market demand.
Growth in vehicle production
The new manufacturing facility could boost Andhra Pradesh's advanced manufacturing capability. The region has seen investment from Reliance Industries and Adani Group.
In 2025, Google's parent company Alphabet announced an investment of US$15bn to build an AI data hub in southern Andhra Pradesh. According to the International Trade Association, India is poised for growth driven by technological advancements, increasing demand across various sectors and supportive policies by the government that could help bolster and develop its manufacturing infrastructure and competitiveness.
India has now surpassed Japan to become the third largest automobile market globally, according to information from the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This shift in global rankings could show growing consumer demand in the country.
Expansion beyond Tamil Nadu
Eicher Motors sold 10,02,893 motorcycles in 2025 which is up 10% year on year. The Hindu says the company's new manufacturing facilities represent the company's first expansion outside Tamil Nadu since its inception in 1901.
The expansion aligns with the company's performance over the past year. Speaking on the development, cited in the Hindu, Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh's Cabinet Minister for Education, IT and Electronics and Human Resources Development, says: "Royal Enfield is far more than a motorcycle brand. It is a timeless symbol of heritage, craftsmanship and enduring quality.
"We are proud to welcome this iconic company to Andhra Pradesh. This investment is a strong endorsement of Andhra Pradesh's speed of doing business, robust infrastructure ecosystem and our commitment to becoming a leading manufacturing destination in India."
Nara says the investment could demonstrate Andhra Pradesh's commitment to becoming a manufacturing destination.
